Service Schedule
Recycling is collected biweekly. When you begin collection service, you will receive a calendar that informs you which week your recycling is picked up, A or B week. All recycling and garbage containers need to be placed at the curb or roadside the night before your service day or by 6:30 a.m. on your service day. Remember that collection times may vary.


Glass, Metal & Plastic

Please empty all food and beverage containers before placing them in your recycling bins.

Glass, Metal and PlasticGlass: Please recycle all glass food jars and beverage bottles such as wine, mayonnaise, and spaghetti sauce jars. Remove any metal lids and place them separately into the recycling bin.

Metal: Please recycle all metal food and beverage containers, including those made of aluminum, tin and steel such as soda, pet food, soup, and tuna cans. Lids are okay. Pots, pans, toasters and other metal items must fit into the recycling bin.

Unacceptable Metal: Microwave ovens, car parts, clothes hangers and small pieces such as nuts and bolts.

Aseptic Containers: Aseptic containers are sterile cardboard containers, which are used to preserve food. Examples of aseptic containers are fruit juice boxes or cardboard milk cartons.
Plastic Containers: Recycle plastic products labeled one through seven and Styrofoam items.

  • Polystyrene packing peanuts (must be in secured or tied clear plastic bag)
  • Polystyrene and plastic "take-out" containers (clean)
Plastic Bags: Bundle all plastic bags together inside of one plastic bag.

Unacceptable Plastics: Please discard any plastic items with no code imprinted on them in the trash cart.


Mixed Paper & Corrugated Cardboard

Mixed Paper
Place mixed paper in your other recycling bin.

  • Cereal Boxes (remove liners)
  • Cracker Boxes
  • Magazines
  • Phone books
  • Junk Mail
  • Adhesive Notes
  • Paper Egg Cartons
  • Brown Paper Grocery Bags
Corrugated Cardboard: Please flatten cardboard boxes into three foot by three foot dimensions and place next to your recycling cart or bin on your recycling day. You may wedge boxes between containers to keep them neat.


Cardboard recycling is mandatory in the City of Morgan Hill!
Cardboard mixed with trash in the garbage cart will not be collected.


Household Batteries


Batteries Put AAA - D alkaline, rechargeable, 9V and button cell batteries in a zippered plastic bag on top of one of your recycling carts.

Do not put car batteries out to be collected.
The San Martin Transfer Station accepts old car batteries at no additional charge.


Used Motor Oil & Oil Filters


Oil Filter To recycle motor oil and used oil filters, you must request two-gallon plastic containers with a screw top lid and special oil filter bags by contacting customer service.

You may place up to two two-gallon containers of used motor oil and three fully drained filters (in bags) next to your recycling bins on collection day.


Cart Sizes


Each Morgan Hill customer receives one 64-gallon brown cart for mixed paper and one 64-gallon brown cart for cans & bottles. Other sizes of recycling carts are available. If you produce a small amount of recycling, you may request an 18-gallon recycle cart or a 32-gallon brown cart.

Contact us to change the size of your recycling cart or request additional recycling carts. Additional recycling carts are available at no charge.

Top
