City of Morgan Hill Compost Program - Food & Yard Waste
Your 96-gallon green compost cart is emptied every week. Please do not overfill the green cart, the lid must close completely. All recycling and garbage containers need to be placed at the curb or roadside the night before your service day or by 6:30 a.m. on your service day. Remember that collection times may vary.
It is mandatory to recycle yard waste in The City of Morgan Hill!
- Yard waste placed out as garbage will not be collected.
- Yard waste that is mixed in with garbage will not be collected.
- Do not put yard waste and compostable items in plastic bags. It will not be collected.
Place the following items in your green composting cart:
- Grass clippings
- Leaves
- Small branches
- Food scraps
- Bones
- Food soiled paper, (paper napkins, plates, coffee cups)
- Waxed paper items, (cardboard milk cartons, wax paper)
- Pizza boxes
- Household garbage or recycling
- Household hazardous waste
- Rock, dirt, concrete, ashes, asphalt or building materials
- Ice plant, palm fronds, cactus, poison ivy or poison oak
- Moth, bug, or ant infested materials
- Liquids
Extra Yard Waste
You may use additional 32-gallon cans (with handles) or bundle additional yard waste in 3 foot by 3 foot bundles. Extra cans and bundles cannot weigh more than 50 pounds. If you have more than seven containers or bundles of yard waste, please notify us one day before your collection day.
If you frequently generate more than one cart of yard waste a week please contact us for an additional cart. Additional yard waste containers are available at no charge.
